Difficulty level: Hard
This is an old tutorial that was once written up by Mekkit. It assumes you already have a good grasp of building techniques, so it is not for beginners. It comes with a save file that shows you how to build several types of diagonal bridges in a few steps that should be easy to follow. If you're stuck at one of the steps, just ask for help in our Discord server!
Hey everyone!
Diagonal Bridges are a great way to add a sense of grandeur to an otherwise isometric world. If you want to build a functional diagonal bridge that looks great, follow the guide below! For each bridge type mentioned below, the following save file shows several steps to accomplish the shown end result. You can unzip it and then open it in OpenRCT2:
Diagonal Bridges
General
Always keep a regular, straight piece of track somewhere safe, as a “seed” to rebuild from, just in case.
Refer to the Spacing track on the edge of the map to better understand how to align the diagonal track. To start the diagonal at the red square, count out the 4 tiles out and away to the yellow square to place a seed copy and build from there.
Refer to the Ends track also on the edge of the map to better understand how to make “half-pieces” of diagonal track. The half-pieces are well used on the ends of bridge guardrails.
While normal straight track only has one piece to it and can be copy pasted into place, diagonal straight track has four pieces and must be built into place. The height of vertical track can be changed if the “Apply change to entire track piece” box is checked in the Tile Inspector. If all four pieces of the track are not together, it cannot be built off of, unbuilt, nor have its height changed as one unit. Safety First!
Deck Bridge
You can follow these steps in the save file that is provided on this page.
Plan out the bridge shape with blocks to form the deck
Build the two superstructure tracks along the underside of the deck
Build the two guardrail tracks along the top of the deck, and copy paste half-pieces on the ends
Clean up track supports, add bridge supports as necessary
Arch Bridge
Plan out bridge deck
Run the two superstructure tracks under the deck, adding sloped sections to form the arch, lowering the slopes into place, and rebuilding the straight superstructure
Copy paste vertical track sections into place under the deck.
Build the two guardrail tracks along the top of the deck, and copy paste half-pieces on the ends
Clean up track supports and add bridge support footers as necessary
Suspension Bridge
Plan out bridge deck
Build the cable tracks in a straight line along the top of the deck, as if they were guardrails
Build off of the cable tracks, sloping the cables up to where the towers will go
Copy paste the vertical tower pieces into place
Build the tower crosspieces into place at the tops of the towers
Build the guardrails along the top of the deck
Clean up track supports, add Poles for vertical cables to connect the cable track to the deck, and add bridge support footers where necessary
