In the 1930s, Chicago held a World's Fair, the Century of Progress, as a celebration of technological innovation and scientific discovery; which featured tomorrow's technology, including robots and a transporting sky-bridge. This exhibition was originally designed to be temporary but after the great depression, it was decided by officials to convert this exhibition into a permanent amusement park to continue this optimistic view of the future in-lieu of an uncertain present. As such, after months of dredging land off of the coast of Lake Michigan, this engineering marvel, a fairground on the lakefront, was created!

One of the highlights of this park, among the machinery and new art-moderne architecture, is the famous Zephyr, utilizing innovative, steel coaster technology! Ride a unique mine-train coaster representing the progression of transportation! The Zephyr celebrates the completion of a record-breaking cross-country railroad from Denver to Chicago and features streamline-style traincars, loops and vertical track, and a layout that weaves between buildings and even interacts with fellow commuters along the city's iconic elevated "L" rapid transit system. Do not miss the Zephyr: it is a unique urban mine-train coaster showcasing the greatest of locomotive feats in a park showcasing the most impressive technological achievements!

Admission to the Century of Progress includes access to other attactions, such as:
-The Futurama House of Tomorrow: Loosely designed and named after locations at the New York 1940 World's Fair building; inspired by the futuristic buildings of Chicago's Century of Progress Architectural District. This building, expected to be the typical household of an American family by the 21st century, also features a robotic automaton who can smoke and drink!

-Showcase of Electricity: A new experimental ride showing the potential of electricity, both in current and application. Adjacent to it is a streamlined structure based on the Century of Progress Electrical Building.

-Sky Ride: Ride the iconic gondola lift based on the original skyride of the 1933 Century of Progress Fair

-Midway Fighters: A Fighter-Plane themed flatride. Become a fighting ace-pilot and defend the world from the rising threats of oppression and tyranny!

-Buck Gordon: Space Ace: Experience the cosmos of the Tribune's newest syndicated space cadets and save the galaxy in a realistic rocket ship!

Purchase a ticket to enjoy the Zephyr and many other attractions. With this Century of Progress exhibition, the future is just around the corner!
